Course description
The original route from Marathon to Athens — the legendary path taken by the messenger Pheidippides in 490 BC. After a flat start, the course climbs almost continuously from around km 10 to km 31 before descending into the marble Panathenaic Stadium. Pure history rather than a fast time.
Coach tip
- Forget a PB: the long climb to km 31 demands early restraint — start well slower than on a flat marathon. From km 32 it drops downhill into the Panathenaic Stadium, where you can push. Even in November it can turn warm, so plan some heat adaptation.
