Can you qualify for Kona?

The basis is the public IRONMAN results of the last few years per race plus the official IRONMAN qualification method from 2026: each age group gets one automatic World Championship slot for its winner, the remaining slots go by normalized performance (age-grading against that age group’s „Kona Standard“) to the fastest times in the field. The qualifying time shown is the slowest time that would typically still have earned a slot.

No. The actual cutoff time depends on the field strength on race day, the number of slots and roll-down (unclaimed slots pass down the ranking). Treat the number as a realistic guide, not a fixed limit. The value is the median across several editions; the range shows how much it varies from year to year.

From 2026 the IRONMAN World Championship for men and women takes place together again in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The Kona/Nice split (2023–2025) is history – all races listed here qualify for Kona.

Not every qualified athlete accepts their World Championship slot. Unclaimed slots then roll down within the age group to the next-fastest athlete – that is roll-down. It is why a slightly slower time than the raw qualifying time often still makes it to Kona.

The qualifying window for the 2026 World Championship (Kona, 10 Oct 2026) closes in mid-August 2026. Races before that feed Kona 2026, later races feed the 2027 edition – also held in Kona. Only 2026 is officially confirmed so far.
