Course description

The 76.2 middle distance in Drensteinfurt in the Münsterland region, held for the 5th time in 2027: 1.2 km swim, 60 km bike, 15 km run. The swim is not in open water but in the Erlbad, an outdoor pool with 50 m lanes. The bike is six 10 km laps of a fully closed two-lane road, and the run is six 2.5 km laps of a loop that is almost free of traffic. Olympic, sprint and youth races take place on the same day.

Coach tip

You swim in an outdoor pool: individual starts every 5 seconds, then a zigzag from lane 1 to lane 8, three times over with a short land exit (3 × 400 m). You must touch the wall at every turn or you are disqualified. The water is around 23°C and wetsuits are only allowed if it is colder — train without one. The guide time for the 1.2 km is 35 minutes.

Six times the same 10 km lap on a closed road: count your laps, because the olympic-distance waves start from 12:35 pm and ride the same lap. The drafting zone is 12 m long. Transition is in the Erlbad, and your bike must be racked at least 30 minutes before your start.

Six run laps of 2.5 km. According to the provisional schedule the three middle-distance waves start at 10:35, 11:15 and 11:55 am, so you run through midday. Your start time is published online at least 7 days before. Without a DTU race licence you pay for a day licence on top of the entry fee, and registration closes on 2 May 2027.
