Course description
A big-city marathon with Rhineland carnival spirit. The start is near Cologne Cathedral, then the route passes through the old town and along long, flat stretches by the Rhine. Loud, cheerful crowds line the course, and few turns allow a flowing rhythm, with the grand finale in the shadow of the cathedral.
Coach tip
Flat and fast with few turns — ideal for a steady rhythm and a good time. The crowds are loud and exuberant, but don't let them tempt you into starting too fast. There's some cobblestone in the old town; otherwise the riverside stretch along the Rhine invites you to push the pace.
