Course description
A middle distance in the Adriatic beach resort of Cervia, the day after IRONMAN Italy. The 1.9 km swim is a single loop from the beach into the sea, averaging 22°C. The one-loop 90 km bike starts on the promenade and heads through the Romagna countryside past the salt pans and their flamingos — rolling, with a single climb. The flat 21.1 km run covers three laps through Cervia and Milano Marittima, past the historic salt warehouse. The transition area is almost 500 m long.
Coach tip
The Adriatic was 24°C on race day in 2025 — right at the wetsuit limit. Do a few open-water sessions without a wetsuit so a ban does not catch you out.
The bike loop has only one real climb: ride it with a power cap and get back into the aero position afterwards. On the flat sections, steady pressure pays more than any surge.
Mid-September can still be above 25°C at midday. Split the flat run into its three laps and plan fuelling and cooling lap by lap.
