Course description
The IRONMAN World Championship on the Big Island around Kailua-Kona. The iconic classic starts with a swim in Kailua Bay, followed by the bike along the infamous Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway through the lava fields to Hawi. It often features searing heat, high humidity and gusty crosswinds.
Coach tip
Accept heat and humidity early — start with conservative pacing. Wind on the Queen K is the key factor — align aero setup and pacing accordingly. Plan fueling and cooling consistently (ice, water, salt).
