Course description

The middle distance at the OstseeMan in Glücksburg on the Flensburg Fjord, on the same Sunday as the full distance. The swim is a single 1.9 km lap in the Baltic Sea, starting from the Kurstrand beach. The 45 km bike loop is fast and gently hilly, crossing the Angeln region, about 20 km on the closed B199 and over the Sandwig Hill, and is ridden twice. The run is three 7 km laps along the spa promenade, through the town centre and along the water to Quellental, finishing in the finish chute on the promenade.

Coach tip

The Baltic is on the cool side in August — the organiser quotes both 18°C and 20–23°C. Wetsuits are allowed up to 24.5°C. Get used to cool open water beforehand: you cannot train on the course itself because of shipping traffic.

The bike loop has short climbs and descents; the highest point is 51 m. Ride the rollers with a power cap. Some sections may have traffic in your direction and oncoming traffic — keep right.

Cut-offs: swim 1:10 h, swim and bike 5:30 h, finish within 8 hours. Each run lap has three aid stations, the first with water only — plan your gels around that.
