Course description

A half distance around the baroque Moritzburg Castle near Dresden, in its 25th edition in 2027. The swim is a single anticlockwise lap of the castle pond around the castle island, starting from the west bank. The closed 28.75 km bike loop is gently rolling with 166 m of climbing and is ridden three times, 87 km in total instead of 90. The run covers three 7 km laps around the castle pond and through the Moritzburg forest, on tarmac, firm paths and one kilometre of forest trail. The finish is right next to the castle.

Coach tip

It is about 800 m on foot from transition to the swim start. Allow for that when you put on your wetsuit and warm up. Whether wetsuits are allowed is decided one hour before the start.

The bike loop has short rollers but no long climbs, and you ride it three times. Ride the rollers with a power cap and note on the first lap where you can roll. The roads are closed, but keep right all the same.

The run switches between tarmac, firm paths and forest trail and is mostly shaded. In the 2026 rain athletes criticised the run course โ€” shoes with a little grip help on the forest section.
