Course description
The middle distance of the Spreewald Triathlon, the "Großer Spreewaldmann/-frau", at the 37th Spreewald Triathlon in 2027: 2.2 km swim, 84 km bike, 20 km run. The swim is three 750 m triangles in the Briesensee lake between Lübben and Straupitz. The 42 km bike lap via Groß Leine, Lamsfeld and Straupitz is ridden twice, partly hilly with long flat stretches, on quiet roads where traffic rules apply. The run is four 5 km laps around the lake on tarmac and forest paths.
Coach tip
Three 750 m triangles in the Briesensee, with a short land exit before each lap. A referee decides on wetsuits on race day — in 2025 the lake was 16.2°C, in 2026 23°C, so be ready for either. Course changes are posted at short notice on the home page (in 2025 the swim was shortened to 1.5 km), so check again the day before.
Twice the 42 km lap on quiet roads where traffic rules apply: keep right, and drafting is punished with a time penalty or disqualification. There is only one aid station, at the start of the 2nd lap — carry enough bottles of your own. Anyone whose race time after the bike is over 4:50 hours is taken out of the race.
Four 5 km laps around the lake on tarmac and forest paths; after 10 km of running your race time must not exceed 5:30 hours. The start is not until 11:05 am, race packs are only handed out on race day from 8 to 11:15 am, and the race briefing is only online, one week before. Without a race licence your entry costs €15 more, and registration closes on 15 May 2027.
